Aboriginal Family Support Worker - Head to Health Kids

  • Base Salary: $77,688 - $86,424 (p.a.)
  • Total Effective Package: $98,309 - $108,270 (p.a.)*

About the role

The Aboriginal Family Support worker will provide a liaison and support service to children and their families attending Head to Health Kids (H2HK). The position is responsible for cultural brokerage, liaison, advocacy and support for clients ensuring the responsibility of coordination and facilitation of child and families for appointments and follow-ups. The position works collaboratively with a Case Worker under a bi-cultural pair model.

 

The service aims to support children under 12 with suspected or emerging mental illness or behavioural disorders including early assessment, therapy, management and family support to limit the severity and progression of mental health challenges.

The role will work in town and visit remote communities. This program will ensure all Aboriginal children aged 0-12 and their families in Central Australia have access to evidence informed assessment and therapeutic services within a continuous quality systems enhancement framework.



To be considered for this position, you will require to meet the following essential requirements:

  • Identify an Aboriginal person; recognised and accepted as an Aboriginal person by the Aboriginal community
  • Willingness, ability and appropriate levels of health and fitness to travel to and work from remote locations when required.
  • Qualification (Cert Ill or above) and or proven experience in one or more of the following areas — family support, early childhood, education, or health.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate sensitively in a cross-cultural environment, and able to take a lead in communicating complex issues in a sensitive manner to families when required.
  • Proven experience in providing support to Aboriginal Children and families.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a member in a multi-disciplinary team, communicate effectively with both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people, prioritise workload and effective time management.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to Aboriginal culture, and history and knowledge of factors influencing the health and lives of Aboriginal children and families in Central Australia.
  • Current NT Drivers Licence, or ability to obtain.
