About the role
Congress provides a comprehensive, holistic and culturally appropriate primary health care service to Aboriginal people living in Alice Springs and surrounding communities. Congress is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation; governance of the organisation’s activities is provided by the community. An emphasis is being placed on preventive health and community involvement in a commitment to Closing the Gap and improve the health and well-being of Aboriginal Australians. You will be supported to deliver work within Congress’ Cultural Safety Framework.
The Podiatrist works as part of a multidisciplinary team alongside a Diabetes Nurse Educator delivering podiatry services to Central Australia. Service provision is targeted towards mitigating the impacts of chronic disease, with an emphasis on managing diabetes-related foot complications.
This role is integral to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Diabetes-related Foot Complications program being undertaken at a national level through the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI). The Podiatrist will help to implement the strategies of this National Program which includes point of care telehealth service delivery and training to build the capacity of remote health services to better manage diabetes related foot complications in the region.
Delivering outreach services and regular overnight travel to remote communities are inherent requirements of the position, outreaching services are delivered to Mutitjulu, Utju, Ntaria, Ltyente Apurte, and other sites
