About the role

 

The Client Engagement Officer supports the engagement of Stolen Generation members and their families to access the Congress Link-Up Service through client liaison and cultural brokerage, and consulting, planning and organising events and activities with and for members to assist in healing.

 

The Congress Link-up Service is an integral service within Congress’ Youth and Family Services Section of the Child, Youth and Family Services Division. The service is a part of a national program that aims to supports members of Stolen Generations – that is, any Aboriginal who was removed, adopted, fostered or placed in an institution or family who are searching for loved ones that were removed, adopted, fostered or placed in an institution. Congress Link-Up provides family tracing, reunion and counselling services to the Stolen Generations to reunite them with their families, communities, traditional country and culture.

 

Congress provides a comprehensive primary health care service to Aboriginal people in Alice Springs and nearby remote communities. 

 

To be considered for this position, you will require;

  • Identifies as an Aboriginal person; recognised and accepted as an Aboriginal person by the Aboriginal community
  • Minimum certificate IV qualifications or proven experience in one or more of the following areas – family support, education or health and willingness to undertake further training.
  • Good communication skills, including written and verbal presentation skills, and the ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal people and develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders, with the capacity to plan, and organise events and activities that promote healing for Stolen Generation members
  • Ability to competently use computer software especially word processing, data inputting and compilation of presentations.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to Aboriginal culture and demonstrated understanding of the history and effects of the forcible removal of Aboriginal children from their families and communities either through forcible removal and institutionalisation, fostering and/or adoption.
  • Current Drivers Licence
