Why Central Australian Aboriginal Congress?

 

Congress has expanded to become the largest Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation in the Northern Territory and are one of the most experienced Aboriginal primary health care services in the country. 

 

Congress provides a comprehensive, holistic and culturally - appropriate primary health care service to Aboriginal people living in and nearby Alice Springs, including eight remote communities, it is a strong political advocate of closing the gap on Aboriginal health disadvantage and a national leader in improving health outcomes for all Aboriginal people.

 

About The Role

 

The Audiologist provides culturally-responsive, high-quality and safe audiology services for Aboriginal clients within the Central Australian community across a variety of clinical and community settings. The Audiologist works in a targeted way to meet the ear-health needs of clients, with a particular emphasis on preventative care and early intervention, through community engagement, screening, assessment, and management.

 

Occasional remote travel is a requirement of the position.

  • Recognised as a qualified practitioner with either full membership with Audiology Australia and a Certificate of Clinical Practice (CCP), and/or Ordinary membership with the Australian College of Audiology (ACAud) with competency in Hearing Aid Dispensary, and been issued with a qualified practitioner number.
  • Broad clinical experience in primary health care including skills in planning, coordinating and decision making within a clinical audiology setting
  • Strong organisational skills (prioritisation, realistic goal setting, adherence to time frames, reliability), and interpersonal skills, including demonstrated liaison and negotiation skills
  • An understanding of the historical and contemporary context of Aboriginal health, the social determinants of health, and the philosophy and practice of Aboriginal Community Control;
  • Demonstrated well developed written, verbal and interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate sensitively in a cross-cultural environment with Aboriginal clients and staff.
  • Current drivers’ licence and a willingness, ability and appropriate levels of health and fitness to travel to and work from remote locations
  • (Desirable) Post-graduate qualifications in public health.
  • (Desirable) Is of Aboriginal descent; identifies as an Aboriginal person; and is accepted as an Aboriginal person by the Aboriginal community;
  • (Desirable) Experience in remote primary health clinic environments.
