Graduate Occupational Therapist
Allied Health - Alice Springs

About the role

The Graduate Occupational Therapist provides culturally-responsive, safe and high-quality therapy services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within the Central Australian community.

 

The Graduate Occupational Therapist will support clients to optimise independence and function within their personal, family and community roles – with supervision and support form clinical supervisors and managers. Wherever possible, the Graduate Occupational Therapist will foster self-determination of clients and community by facilitating choice and control over service delivery. The Graduate Occupational Therapist will work across the various primary health programs in the organisation; including the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP), and Chronic Conditions, among others.

 

This role is primarily based in Mparntwe - Alice Springs, however occasional remote travel may be a requirement of this position.

 

What are we looking for?

Someone to fit our team with the following requirements:

  • Bachelor of Occupational Therapist or equivalent tertiary qualification and current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Knowledge of community-based Occupational Therapy service delivery within a multidisciplinary team, including working with a broad range of clients from varying socioeconomic backgrounds who present with a variety of functional impairments;
  • Flexible approach to service delivery that is responsive to the needs of the community;
  • Ability to partner with service users, including them in goal setting, care planning and care co-ordination to identify and address health and wellbeing goals;
  • An understanding of the historical and contemporary context of Aboriginal health, the social determinants of health, and the philosophy and practice of Aboriginal Community Control;
  • Willingness, ability and appropriate levels of health and fitness to travel to and work from remote locations.
  • NT Drivers Licence or the ability to obtain;
  • (Desirable) Is of Aboriginal descent; identifies as an Aboriginal person; and is accepted as an Aboriginal person by the Aboriginal community;
  • (Desirable) Experience in working within Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation;
  • (Desirable) Knowledge of CHSP and NDIS funding requirements.
