About the role

The Aboriginal Family Support Worker provides culturally safe and responsive support to children and families referred to Congress' Family Support Services. The position works collaboratively with a Case Worker under bi-cultural pair model. 

To be considered for this position, you will require:

• Is of Aboriginal descent; identifies as an Aboriginal person; and is accepted as an Aboriginal person by the Aboriginal community.
• Diploma level, or working towards and or proven experience in one or more of the following areas - family support, early childhood, education, or health. 
• Demonstrated experience and skills in providing parenting and life skills support to vulnerable families and children with complex needs and an understanding of child development and the impact of trauma on children including neglect.  
• Awareness of / sensitivity to local Aboriginal culture and history, the ability to communicate effectively with the Alice Springs Aboriginal community and extended family members.
• Demonstrated experience in working collaboratively with other organisations to achieve positive outcomes.
• Demonstrated capacity to use a computer for data entry and case note recording.
• Current NT Drivers License.
